Data center energization

Energization Plans, LOTO & Energized Work Permits

The day a data center goes live, every room changes from a construction site to an electrical hazard. AAAT3 writes energization plans, runs lockout tagout and controls energized work permits so the switch to live power happens without a single shock or arc flash.

What’s included

Control the power, protect the people

Before, during and after energization, every person on site knows what is live and who controls it.

01

Energization plans

A written plan that turns first power into a controlled, step by step event.

  • Sequence by room and system
  • Roles, sign offs and communication
  • Site-wide notice and training
  • Live area maps updated daily
02

Lockout tagout

Locks and tags are the only thing between a worker and stored energy.

  • Equipment specific LOTO procedures
  • Group LOTO and lockboxes
  • Absence of voltage testing
  • Shift change and lock removal rules
03

Energized work permits

Live work is the exception and must be justified and approved.

  • EEWP forms and approval chain
  • Justification review
  • Shock and arc flash boundaries
  • PPE and barricade checks

Project management and consulting

Project management and consulting for energization

AAAT3 can manage the energization program, run LOTO for the site or audit your contractors.

Energization program management

We plan and run energization with the GC, electrical sub, utility and Cx agent.

Best for: Projects moving to live power

LOTO program consulting

Written LOTO program, procedures and lock hardware plan.

Best for: Contractors and owners needing an audit-ready program

Permit control desk

AAAT3 runs the EEWP and LOTO desk so every permit is checked.

Best for: Large sites with many trades near live gear

Electrical safety staffing

Electrical safety professionals for day and night shifts.

Best for: Energization and live white space phases

Live area access control

Maps, barricades, badges and signs that keep unqualified people out.

Best for: Phased buildings with live and dead areas

Incident investigation

Root cause after a shock, arc flash or LOTO violation.

Best for: Any site after an event

How it works

From dead building to live power

Plan

Sequence, roles and live area map.

Train

Whole site briefed on what goes live.

Verify

Inspections and tests complete.

Energize

Power applied by sequence.

Control

LOTO and permits for all work.

Update

Maps, labels and notices kept current.

Rule of thumb: once a room is energized, it stays energized in everyone’s mind. Update the live area map the same day and brief every shift.

FAQ

Common questions

What is an energization plan?

A written plan for bringing power to a new building or system. It sets the sequence, who approves each step, how the site is told, and how live areas are marked and controlled.

What is an electrically safe work condition?

Equipment that has been disconnected, locked out, tested for absence of voltage and grounded where needed. NFPA 70E makes it the preferred way to work.

When is an energized work permit needed?

When work must be done on or near exposed energized parts that have not been put in an electrically safe work condition. NFPA 70E lists limited exceptions.

What is group LOTO?

A method where one authorized person locks out the system and each worker places a personal lock on a group lockbox, so no one can re-energize while anyone is still working.

Can AAAT3 run our permit desk?

Yes. We run the permit and LOTO desk on site so every permit and lock is checked.
