Electrical Safety & NFPA 70E Oversight
Data centers are electrical projects with a building around them. AAAT3 manages electrical safety from first energization to live white space, so shocks, arc flash and outages never reach your crews or your client.
- NFPA 70E programs
- Energization plans
- LOTO & EEWP
- Arc flash studies
- Qualified person audits
By the numbers
What poor electrical safety costs
Workplace electrical deaths from 2011 to 2023. Construction had the most of any industry
ESFI from BLS data, 2025Share of electrical fatality victims who were not in electrical jobs, so every trade on site is at risk
ESFI from BLS data, 2025Electrical injuries with days away from work in 2023 and 2024, with a median of 10 days lost
ESFI, 2026Construction workers electrocuted in 2023, one of OSHA’s Focus Four hazards

Electrical safety from first energization to live white space
Energization changes everything on a data center job. We make sure the plan, the people and the paperwork change with it.
Energization and LOTO
The day the building goes live is the most dangerous day of the project.
- Energization plans and sequence
- Lockout tagout and group LOTO procedures
- Energized electrical work permits (EEWP)
- Barricades, signage and access control
NFPA 70E program and training
Qualified and unqualified workers need different rules, training and gear.
- Written NFPA 70E program review
- Qualified person training and audits
- Arc flash PPE selection and inspection
- Shock and arc flash risk assessments
Switchgear, UPS and battery rooms
High energy gear needs strict rules for testing, startup and maintenance.
- Arc flash labels and study review
- Battery room hazards and spill control
- Test equipment and meter checks
- Startup and testing safety plans
Project management and consulting
Project management and consulting for electrical work
AAAT3 can lead the electrical safety program, manage the energization package or advise your team where you need help.
Energization program management
We plan and run the energization sequence with the GC, electrical sub, utility and commissioning agent.
Best for: Projects moving from construction to live powerNFPA 70E program consulting
We write or audit your electrical safety program, LOTO procedures and permit forms to the current NFPA 70E.
Best for: Contractors and owners who need an audit-ready programArc flash study coordination
We coordinate the engineering study, label review and updates when the design or settings change.
Best for: New builds, expansions and gear changesElectrical safety staffing
Electrical safety professionals on site to run permits, LOTO and daily audits.
Best for: Large crews and energized white space workElectrical incident investigation
Root cause analysis, corrective actions and documentation after a shock, arc flash or near miss.
Best for: Any project after an electrical eventElectrical QC (USACE CQM)
Three phase inspections, test reports and as-built checks for electrical systems.
Best for: Federal and military data centersHow it works

Common questions
What is NFPA 70E?
NFPA 70E is the national standard for electrical safety in the workplace. It covers safe work practices, energized work permits, arc flash risk assessment, PPE and training for qualified workers.
When is an energized electrical work permit required?
Generally when work is done on or near exposed energized parts that have not been put in an electrically safe work condition. NFPA 70E lists the limited exceptions.
Can AAAT3 manage our energization?
Yes. We plan and run the energization sequence with the GC, electrical subcontractor, utility and commissioning agent.
Do you do arc flash studies?
We coordinate the engineering study with a licensed engineer, review the labels and keep them updated when the design or settings change.
Who needs electrical safety training?
Anyone who works on or near energized equipment, plus unqualified workers who must know the hazards and boundaries. On a data center that is most of the site.
